Growing up, the few days after Halloween, our elementary school collected Halloween candy. After we went trick or treating, we would set a pile of candy aside to donate and bring it to school. I don’t remember what they even did with the candy!
As a mom, I loved that idea, that we could collect candy and donate it to the food bank. I called the Food Bank in our town to see if that was even something they would accept. They were thrilled! That was just not something that was typically donated. So our little Girl Scout troops collected candy at their elementary school each year and then would package it in sandwich bags with a little note that read, “Happy Thanksgiving” Love, Troop 124. Our Food Bank looked forward to that donation every year! It was certainly a win-win!
